Import Bookmarks option is also applicable for bookmarks stored in your browser. But chances are, it will save automatically the fetched meta tags on bookmarked sites. As an alternative, you can use Import Bookmarks option from bookmarks you submitted to your favorite social bookmarking sites. As a personal preference, I extensively use imported bookmarks from one of the most popular social bookmarking sites today, Del.icio.us. Let me the amateur bookmarking technique show you how it is done:
- Sign up for an account at Del.icio.us (Go to Join Now). One good thing about Del.icious is that it does not require email verification so you can bookmark right away.
- You can Create a Public Profile to show your website, or you can proceed directly to the bookmarking process.
- Input the URL of the site you want to bookmark. It will automatically generate title, description, or tags. But you can change every field the way you want each one to be. In case the tags field restore default setting, you can edit it after you have pressed saved and bookmarked your site.
- Repeat Item No. 3 on all sites you want to bookmark. Be generous in bookmarking and push your limit.
- After you’re gone weary of bookmarking through Del.icio.us, go to your account Settings found on the upper-right corner.
- Under Bookmarks category, choose “Export/BackUp Bookmarks” to download a copy of your bookmarks to transfer to your own browser or to import to other social bookmarking sites.
- Click “Export” and then Save File option, then OK. The Del.icious bookmarks file is then at hand.
- Locate Containing folder of your Del.icious bookmark file (usually found on Desktop or on the Downloads default folder of your browser) so you’ll know the import path later when you import your Del.icious bookmarks to other social bookmarking sites.
- Go to other Social Bookmarking sites where Import Del.icious Bookmarks are enabled and create an account on each site. I suggest you go over my list on my previous blog “Social Bookmarking Made Easy Using Import - Upload Scheme”. Let me use my Blinklist account for initial demonstration.
- In Blinklist, Import from Del.icious is enabled. Then proceed to Step 2 and locate the Containing folder of your Del.icious bookmarks file. On File Upload window, open your Del.icious bookmarks file. Your bookmarks on Blinklist will then be updated.
- Proceed to other Social Bookmarking sites importing your Del.icious bookmarks file. Just look for the Import Bookmarks option in case it is not specified as Import from De.licious. Usually it can be found on Settings, Tools, or Bookmarks
- Have fun doing social bookmarking as a great part of your site SEO campaign.
