The Next Google Major Update

SEO Web DesignGoogle major update is a grand evaluation of pages in the web. It is observed to occur every three (3) months. Although Googlebot is crawling millions of pages daily, Google major update determines ranking results for the keywords. This could mean a lot for websites launching SEO campaign – it is the ultimate measure of the effectiveness of the SEO techniques and strategies being used.

Prior to observed statistics on Google crawling rate, this week is supposed to be the schedule of Google major update. It has become noticeable that there are more pages being crawled daily. I usually let Google manage the crawl rate for my sites. Apparently, within this week, crawl rate reached the record high of almost 4,000 pages in just one day.

Website PageRank™

PageRank™ (or simply PR) defines probability distribution of links for page A originally formulated as:

PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))

where,
  • PR is the PageRank
  • A is the page under evaluation
  • T1, . . . , Tn are pages linking to A
  • d is the damping factor which can be set between 0 and 1 (usually set to 0.85)
  • C(T)'s are number of links going out of page T.
Although there had been major modifications for the PageRank™ Algorithm since Google has been proposed as spider-based alternative search engine, the basic idea lies mainly on how many pages on the web point to a particular page. Pages with higher PR linking to one site will likely increase the site’s PR as well. While pages with no PR value yet seem negligible to add up to the site’s PR points. The next Google major update will determine how many pages, crawled by Googlebot, are linking to the target site and evaluate its PageRank™ value.

Keyword Relevance

Keyword relevance is a measure of how a particular page could provide relevant information on a particular search key. It can be approximated as:

Keyword Relevance = (Keyword Density) x (Keyword Weight)

where,
  • Keyword Density = (Number of times phrase appears in text) / (Number of all words)
  • Keyword Weight = (Calculated based on position )
Estimated Page Relevance

Based on the above hypothetical approximations of PageRank and Keyword Relevance, the page’s relevance to the target keyword can also be simulated. It can be simply illustrated as a product of PR and Keyword Relevance, that is:

~Page Relevance = (PageRank™) x (Keyword Relevancet)

Of course, Google major update is composed of many different algorithms to streamline the most suitable pages to land on the first page of the search engine results pages (SERRPs). The above information can only give some insights on how to conduct an SEO campaign for the target website in response to Google search algorithms and updates. Making your SEO Web Design Googlebot-friendly is just the same as winning half of the battle. The rest would be hardwork.
