Top 5 Tips in Composing SEO-Friendly Meta Keywords

Meta keywords can be found under HEAD tag of HTML documents. It allows webmasters to insert keyword information about the page to help search engines know how to categorize it. Until recently, meta keywords is becoming less popular among spider-based search engines. This is because some webmasters have extremely abused it putting every target keyword they want. This makes the meta keyword the least important among meta tags and among elements of on-page/on-site search engine optimization ( SEO ). However, some directory-based search engines still look for this meta tag according to their set of algorithms in evaluating page relevance to search keys. 1. The target keywords found on Title and Meta Description tags must also exist in meta keywords tag.


2. Read across the page content and gather all highly discussed target keywords and include them in the meta keywords list.


3. Avoid identical content of meta keywords tag on any two highly relevant pages in your site. Whenever possible, create a unique set of meta keywords for each highly relevant and very informative pages.


4. Use Latent Semantic Indexing ( LSI ) to carefully select a set of highly related keywords from your list of target keywords.


5. Do not abuse keyword stuffing. A combination of 6-8 highly related target keywords can be enough for search engines to categorize the page.

Although meta keywords can be ignored by spider-based search engines, your page relevance among directory-based search engines through proper meta keywords composition can be helpful in making your site rank on their results pages ( SERP’s ). This will then still influence the listings of spider-based search engines on target keywords.
